What Does Orthopedic Surgery Treat?

Musculoskeletal Injuries

When muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, and spinal discs become injured, orthopedics surgery may help. Some of the more common problems include carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff breakdown, tendonitis, and nerve pain.

Total Joint Replacement

If a joint is damaged beyond repair, it may have to be completely replaced in order to return to function. The damaged cartilage is taken out along with any damaged bone. It is replaced with a prosthetic joint. Common total joint replacement surgeries are: Total Hip replacements, Total Knee replacements, and Total Shoulder replacements.

Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopic surgery is a less invasive surgery that utilizes cameras to visualize concerns. The surgeon makes a small incision and utilizes the cameras video feed to visualize and address the orthopedic concern.

Elbow, Wrist, And Hand Surgery

These surgeries are performed by specialized hand and upper extremity surgeons. Often prior to surgery the patient trials Occupational Therapy to address the concern, if no improvement is made, the patient is then considered a candidate for an orthopedic consult.
